The Glory of In-Between
For some reason I've been increasingly interested in the spaces in between, the liminal spaces. For those who haven't seen that word before, the formal definition is:
occupying a position at, or on both sides of, a boundary or threshold.
Thinking about all the language around these spaces. Limits are the hard edges. A subliminal thing falls just under the edge, the limit of what we perceive. When something is eliminated it's removed, pushed ex liminia, past the limit.
So it's the beginnings, the endings. The little moments when the world is clearly going to change forever, or has just done so. These are the moments I'm talking about. There's a freedom around these spaces, a place where we can be ourselves, because the old rules stop mattering; the world is over, or is new. Either way, there's something special here.
